COURSE OBJECTIVES
Introductory 40 hours of comprehensive skills course for newly selected ST3 Urology Trainees and CT2 Trainees aspiring for urology national selection
Simulation training in cystoscopy, SPC, ureteroscopy, TURP, TURBT, TVT, Botox, circumcision, scrotal surgery and laparoscopy
Scenario teaching to illustrate the management of common emergencies encountered at ST3 level
Development of professionalism and attitudes required for ST3 performance
COURSE OVERVIEW
Simulation Bootcamp is an innovative, practical hands-on interactive simulation-rich course for newly appointed Core Surgical trainees entering the Urology Scheme. The course is aimed at ST3 and newly appointed ST3 to reinforce basic concepts, instruments and techniques in urology and to teach essential endoscopic procedures in urology, It can also act as an excellent introductory course for delegates who may wish to later apply for a urology training number.
The course follows the ST urology curriculum from the Higher Specialty Training Syllabus.
It is led by a prestigious national team of experts supported by respected academics in the field of continuing professional development. You will receive hands-on experience in common urological procedures. You will enhance your professional development by improving your ability to problem solve, think creatively and independently and communicate clearly with patients. The added dimension of targeted training on state of the art virtual reality simulators (TURP Mentor, Lap Mentor and Uro Mentor) makes this course unique.
By the end of the course you will have done 5 TURP, Ureteroscopy and Laparoscopic Nephrectomy.
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
Day 1 Circumcision, Testicular Fixation, Hydrocele, Suprapubic Catheter, Cystoscopy Stent, Bowel Anastomosis, Stoma Formation, Bladder Repair, Communication and Consent
Day 2 Energy Sources, Laser, EBLUS Exercises, TURP, TURBT, Ureteroscopy, Green Light Laser Prostatectomy, Basic Laparoscopic Skills, Facilitative Leadership and Collegiate Working
Day 3 Scenarios, Cystoscopy Stent and Wash Out, TVT/TOT, Botox Injections, Medio-Legal and Complaints
Day 4 EBLUS Exam, SPC, Circumcision Assessment, Scenarios
Day 5 URS, TURP, TURBT, Lap
ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION
Pre & Post Course MCQ Formative Assessment of Knowledge, technical and communication skills. E-BLUS exam, Endoscopic Skills assessment. Evaluation survey. Peer observation of faculty teaching skills
PRACTICAL STUFF!
The venue is the LIMIT Suite, 3rd Floor, Chancellor’s Wing, St James’s University Hospital, Beckett Street, Leeds. LS9 7TF. The hospital is 2.5 miles North East of the city centre. Registered delegates will be forwarded full directions including city centre and hospital site maps as well as suggested parking options. A taxi from the rail station will take approximately 15 minutes depending upon traffic, the taxi rank is located close to Weatherspoons on the North Concourse. The number 16 bus runs from outside Mill Hill Chapel opposite the Queen’s Hotel which is located at the front of the rail station.
