BAOMS Reconstruction SSIG Cadaveric Study Workshop: Minimising Morbidity in Maxillofacial Reconstruction

Thursday, 16 November 2017 - Friday, 17 November 2017

Course Title: BAOMS Reconstruction SSIG Cadaveric Study Workshop:

Minimising Morbidity in Maxillofacial Reconstruction

Date: 16-17 November 2017
Duration: 2 days
Venue: Anatomy Dissection Room and Seminar Room, Level 9 Worsley Building, University of Leeds
Synopsis: The theme of this study workshop is minimising morbidity in oral and maxillofacial reconstruction, especially in relation to the donor site.

On the first day, the programme covers oral and maxillofacial implant rehabilitation. This includes a hand-on workshop in the afternoon where delegates will have the opportunity to place zygomatic and co-axial implants. Donor site morbidity can be minimised by utilisation of a defect and patient tailored approach, avoiding bone grafts or adjunct surgical procedures with the implant technology currently available.

On the second day of the programme, delegates will work in pairs to harvest a chimeric subscapular system flap for simulated reconstruction of complex maxillofacial defects. This enables reconstruction based on a single flap (or one set of microvascular anastomosis) and would be especially relevant in vessel depleted necks. One of the aims of the workshop will be to encourage delegates to widen their scope and range of reconstruction options available in the management of complex orofacial defects.
