No – Please contact Medical Staffing. Medical Education does not have the required information regarding contracts or pay and therefore cannot give legally binding references.

I don’t have my rota! How do I get it?

You need to contact your rota co-ordinator. If you do not know who this is, try contacting your Clinical supervisor, or calling the department.

My ePortfolio isn’t working as it should!

Please contact EPortfolio helpdesk – this is done through the ePortfolio itself. If you cannot log on, contact a Foundation Administrator.

When/Where is teaching?

F1 Teaching is on a Tuesday from 12:30 – 13:30. The speaker presents from the Gledhow Wing seminar rooms at SJUH, and this is video linked to the LGI Postgraduate Centre. You must attend at least 70% of teaching sessions throughout the year.
F2 Teaching takes place on a bi-monthly basis, and will be located in Leeds, Harrogate or Pinderfields. You must attend at least 50% of these sessions.

I’m ill. Who do I need to contact?

You need to tell your rota co-ordinator, Medical Staffing, Medical Education and your Educational or Clinical Supervisor. If you are taking a period of sickness of significant length, i.e. longer than 5 days, it is advisable to inform your Training Programme Director. If you are sick for more than 20 days (during which you would otherwise be at work) you may require an extended period of training at the end of the academic year.

I have been summoned for Jury Service. What do I do?

You should accept summons for and attend the Jury service. However, the same rules for Time out of Training above apply – if your Jury Service term lasts longer than 20 days (during which you would otherwise be at work) you may require an extended period of training at the end of the academic year.

Who is my Clinical/Education Supervisor/ Who is my Training Programme Director?

Your Educational and Clinical Supervisor (ES/CS) and your Training Programme Director (TPD) is listed on your ePortfolio.

How do I get involved with teaching students or other trainees?

If you would like to teach Medical Students, please speak to the Undergraduate team within Medical Education. Mandy Shotton is the centre manager, and can be contacted through the AVA system or nhs.net

Do I need to use my nhs.net email address?

Yes you do! Once you start work her we will only contact you on your nhs.net email address. If you are not using and checking your nhs.net email address on a regular basis you will miss important information and this could be detrimental to your progression beyond foundation training.

Who manages my ePortfolio?

Your ePortfolio will be managed by the Foundation team at Medical Education Leeds. Please contact either Debbie or Becky with any ePortfolio management queries, and we will escalate to TPDs if appropriate. This does not mean technical issues – please forward these to ePortfolio helpdesk.

Who do I contact if I need personal support?

We have a Professional Support Unit at Leeds Teaching hospitals Trust. This is headed up by Louise Buchanan, who works at Medical Education. Louise and the team will support trainees who are having personal or professional issues. Please don’t hesitate to contact your Foundation Administrators, Educational or Clinical Supervisors or TPD if you feel you need support.

Where is the Dr’s Mess? How do I join?

Level 4 Gledhow Wing, SJUH. The Dr’s Mess at SJUH re-opened in November 2015. There is ongoing work to secure a Drs Mess at the Leeds general Infirmary.

Am I entitled to study leave and funding?

As a foundation trainee, you are allocated training days and tutorials during which you should be able to, alongside your clinical work, meet your curriculum needs. Therefore, we do not fund any additional training, courses or conferences.
You may apply for time off, however we cannot provide any reimbursement of fees or expenses.

When is my ARCP?

The Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP) panels will take place in June/July of each academic year. You should have completed everything on your ePortfolio checklist by the end of May.
