Year 5 Students |
Year 5 forms part of phase 3 of the MBChB course, 'Becoming a doctor - enhancing professional competence.' You will return to Leeds after ten weeks of elective study in October. Then, following an introductory week you will begin a rotation of five four-week placements (integrated clinical attachments) in Leeds and other Yorkshire hospitals and in general practices. Most placements have a major systematic theme around common conditions or diseases. Timetables are designed so that you can see different aspects, both medical and surgical and gain hands-on experience. The year is designed to prepare you to be a house officer in your first foundation (FY1) year. Each placement is assessed and you are also expected to provide written pieces of work (SSCs) on cases you have chosen in four of the rotations. After written and practical examinations you will spend five weeks Preparing for Professional Practice with the FY1 post you will be taking up and have some study days and short courses on peri-operative, emergency and legal medicine to help you with your first days in post as a doctor. |
